Surprise Backyard Wedding ~ Georgian Bay

Imagine….  you’re 13 years old, at your grandparents’ cottage for a lovely party when your aunt pulls you and your cousins into a bedroom and tells you she’s about to get married. And she wants you all be her bridesmaids. No, not next summer. Right now. Here’s your bouquet. Now help me get ready. Surprise wedding!

Can I even tell you how shocked and thrilled and absolutely giddy these girls all were? Devon and Jeremy through a great party and got married in the middle of it. The bridesmaids ranged in age from one to fifteen and most of them were in jeans. There were tears and laugher, shock and excitement. It was so much fun to watch, let alone photograph. These two have been together for some time and have gone on some serious adventures, and apparently everyone knew it was coming at some point, just not right now. Devon’s brother-in-law had even joked a month before that she should just get married at this party since everyone would be there anyways. He didn’t know it was already all arranged.  From a completely selfish standpoint, I was so excited to photograph this wedding. I’ve heard of surprise weddings, seen the photos, read the stories, but hadn’t yet attended or photographed one. So needless to say, I was pretty stoked about it. Of course the property, the beautiful people and the views were pretty amazing bonuses!   It was lovely to be part of your day you two.
