DIY Farm Wedding in Maxwell, Ontario
May 24, 2018 , All
Noah and Sophie met me in a provincial park for engagement photos in 2016 with their dog, a energetic and affectional doodle of some variety. They were my ‘dog’ couple in a summer filled with ‘cat’ couples, and the only couple to bring their furry friend to their engagement and/or wedding (in this case both!), so I was thrilled! Their sense of humour made me look forward to their DIY Farm wedding. Some times you just know its going to be fun. This wedding was equal amounts party as it was nuptuals. It was located on a beautiful rolling farm in Maxwell, Ontario. This wasn’t their home or the home of friends or family. This was an air b&b location that they called out of the blue, asking to rent for a weekend event. It was perfect. The house was filled with little rooms connected by tiny doors and long hallways. The lawn swept out past manicured gardens, open fields and mixed brush with a huge old barn perched in the middle.
They wanted to gather everyone they loved together to have a great big party and that’s exactly what they did. Family and friends gathered to assemble and hang DIY decorations, set out furniture and lawn games, and get the farm wedding-ready. The rehearsal dinner was complete with decorations, matching denim jackets, and stellar catering by Peasemarsh Farms. The wedding day arrived with many family and friends already there from the day before, making wedding prep smooth as butter. As guests arrived and began walking down the tree lined drive, drinks and laughter waited for them. The afternoon rolled easily from ceremony to reception with moving stories and decadent food.
I left as the sky turned pink and the barn continued to pulse with twinkling lights and music behind me.
