We often go swimming in the Beaver River at a bend where the water rushes fast and deep and where the kids take turns wading in at the edges, holding our hands. The poison ivy sneaks along the shadowed edges while we wander the river bank unhurried. Its about two minutes from our home so a quick cool off on a hot summer day is as quick as easy as piling the kids into and out of the car… which, if I’m being honest, can take some time. I forget though that the bay is so close to us as well, and with its shallow beaches, it offers such an ideal family get away. After swimming lessons the other day, we grabbed some fish and chips and headed to Memorial Park on Georgian Bay. It might be one of the dreamiest spots to visit, with lots of trees and shade and picnic tables. Families camp can camp just off the beach and there’s a huge jungle gym and pavilion for the kids to run through. I think we’ll take the kids for their first camping adventure there… an easy introduction close to home. Algonquin Park, you will have to wait another year!
